Hannibal, Missouri Quit Issuing Red Light Camera Tickets in May 2025
For the past 18 years, Hannibal Police used traffic cameras at intersections to catch drivers running red lights. A red light camera ticket in Hannibal was a 2-point moving violation that affected the driving record and insurance rates of the driver if they didn’t get the ticket “fixed.”

Hannibal red light camera tickets that were issued before May 20, 2025 are still considered valid, and you can hire an attorney to get the ticket reduced to a non-moving, no-point infraction.
Any new red light camera tickets will be dismissed by the City Prosecutor if they were issued after the Hannibal City Council voted on May 20th to shut down the red light cameras.
St. Louis City Red Light Camera Tickets Are Making a Comeback
In other areas of Missouri, red light cameras are returning. The city of St. Louis quit using red light cameras in 2015. But in April 2024, the Board of Aldermen approved the return of red light cameras to St. Louis City.
The new red light cameras in St. Louis City will take a photo of the vehicle’s license plate and the driver’s face. The resulting ticket will be considered a moving violation, not just a parking ticket. The City is searching for a vendor to manage the red light camera system.
At this point, no traffic cameras have been installed yet, and there has been no word regarding when the City will begin enforcement.
