Stop Sign Cameras May Be Coming Soon To A City Near You

Posted on

In addition to red light cameras and speed cameras, stop sign cameras are making an appearance in some cities.

California and Maryland already use stop sign cameras to catch drivers rolling through stop signs, and the District of Columbia is considering installing them.

According to a recent news article about which states have stop sign cameras, 40% of all fatal crashes in the U.S. happen at intersections containing stop signs.

Seven stop sign cameras were installed five years ago in quiet parks in the Santa Monica Mountains, west of Los Angeles. Since their installation, approximately 70,000 tickets have been issued. The fine for each ticket used to be $175 but was reduced to $100 after thousands of drivers complained about the tickets.
